Hours and Locations

The William K. Cheatham building Main Library of the Atlantic City Free Public Library is located near City Hall and is adjacent to the Atlantic County Offices. The Richmond Avenue Branch is located on the corner of Ventnor and Windsor avenues, connected to the Richmond Avenue School. The Atlantic City Heritage Collections are located within the Main Library.

Parking
There is metered parking on the streets surrounding the library. The library also offers free validation for one hour of parking at the New York Avenue Parking Garage, located on South New York Avenue between Atlantic and Pacific avenues.

 

The Atlantic City Heritage Collections

The Atlantic City Heritage Collections of Atlantic City history is located within the Main Library, near the Help Desk. Please make an appointment to use the collections at least 24 hours in advance and receive confirmation before visiting.

The Atlantic City Experience @ Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall

The Atlantic City Heritage Collections are housed at the Main Library building. An appointment is required to use the collections. Research hours are not available due to the covid-19 emergency. Please contact us if you wish the library do conduct research for you.

 The library also has some exhibits and occasional programs relating to Atlantic City history. No appointment is needed for these.

The library operates the Atlantic City Experience at Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall which is a wonderful exhibit and introduction to the rich history of the City. Please note that this exhibit is open to the public weekdays from 9 AM to 5 PM but The Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall that controls access to the exhibit will occasionally close the exhibit areas for special events and Boardwalk Hall events. Please check the Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall Events Schedule before planning your visit.
